Main Campus (Grades 2-8) 7:50-2:55

Primary Campus

Full Day Kindergarten and 1st Grade: 8:00-3:05

AM Preschool: 8:00-11:00

AM Kindergarten 8:00-11:30

PM Preschool: 12:00-3:00

Little Mountaineers: 1:00-2:30

 

What is the school dress code?

Preschool and Kindergarten students do not wear school uniforms. Casual comfortable attire should be worn so that every child feels comfortable while painting, playing, sitting on the carpet, etc.

Does St. Mary School offer hot lunch?

Hot lunch is served at both Primary and Main Campus on a daily basis. The meals are prepared on site in our kitchen. Our lunch menu is designed strictly for our students, allowing us to gear the menu to their tastes while providing a healthy well-balanced lunch daily. Our menu meets the dietary guidelines set by the Secretary of Agriculture in Washington D.C.

 

Are bus services available at St. Mary School?

Transportation after school is available through the L'Anse Creuse Public School System for those families who live within the L'Anse Creuse district.

 

Are childcare services available before/after school?

Latchkey is available at both buildings. The morning session opens at 7:00 and lasts until school begins. The afternoon session begins immediately after school and runs until 6:00pm. There is a $20 yearly registration fee. Latchkey costs $4.00 an hour and is billed on the 1/2 hour. For additional information, see our Latchkey page.

 

What "Special" classes does St. Mary School offer?

Special classes are offered each week and vary by grade level.

3 Year-old Preschool: Large Motor Development in the gym, Story Time in the library, and Music with the music teacher

4 Year-old Preschool: Spanish, Large Motor Development in the gym, Story Time in the library and Music with the school music teacher

Kindergarten: Spanish, Library, Gym, Music

1st-8th Grades: Spanish, Library, Gym, Music, Computers, Art

 

What clubs are available to St. Mary School students?

Children's Ministry: Preschool - Grade 5

Girl Scouts: Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Cub Scouts: Grades 1 - 5

Ski Club: Grades 2 - 8

Student Council: Grades 3 - 8

Children's Choir: Grades 3-8

Newspaper Club: Grades 4 - 8

Chess Club: Grades 4 - 8

National Junior Honor Society: Grades 6 - 8

 

What sports teams are available for student participation?

1st-4th Grades: Co-ed Indoor Soccer

3rd-4th Grades: Instructional League Basketball for both boys and girls

5th-8th Grade Girls: Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Cheerleading

5th-8th Grade Boys: Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Lacrosse

 

When is the St. Mary School open house?

An Open House strictly for new families is held the last Sunday in January from 1:00-3:00pm. Current families and new families are invited to attend our second Open House in March. This date fluctuates; please call the school office for the actual date this year.

 

Can I take a tour of the school?

School tours are available anytime during the school year. Please call the Main Campus office to arrange a tour for Grades 2-8. Primary Campus can be contacted to schedule a tour for Preschool-1st Grade. The Principal or Assistant Principal will schedule your tour of both campuses. All prospective families are encouraged to tour the school during the school day and bring their child along if possible.

Students entering grades 2-8 are invited to attend school for a day prior to enrolling. It is a nice opportunity for the student to meet new friends, learn the layout of the school, and be introduced to their prospective teachers and school staff.

How do I qualify for In-Parish tuition rates?

In order to be considered in-parish for tuition, you must be a member of St. Peter Parish, attend Mass regularly and contribute $450.00 yearly to the church.

 

What are class size limits?

3 Year-old Preschool: 18 students per session with a certified teacher and a full-time aide

4 Year-old Preschool: 20 students per session with a certified teacher and a full-time aide

Half Day and Full Day Kindergarten: 20 students

1st and 2nd Grades: 24 students

3rd-5th Grades: 28 Students

6th-8th Grades: 28-30 Students

 

What is the entrance age for Preschool and Kindergarten?

3 year-old preschoolers must be 3 by December 1st and toilet trained.

4 year-old preschoolers must be 4 by December 1st

Kindergartners must be 5 by December 1st

 

What is included in the Preschool/Kindergarten curriculum?

Our Preschool Program Brochure describes areas of student growth in creative expression, motor skill, language arts, math, religion, science and social/emotional development.

Our Kindergarten Curriculum Overview describes areas of student growth in phonological awareness, motor skill, handwriting, religion, math, reading readiness, oral language, science, social studies, and development of work habits.

 

What about new Kindergarten and 1st Grade students?

The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) is administered to all new Kindergarteners and 1st Graders to St. Mary School. The test is done to ensure that St. Mary School is the appropriate educational placement for your child. Our teaching staff will also use the testing information to gain a greater insight into our new students. The screening requires no preparation on the part of the student being tested.

 

I am interested in registering my child at St. Mary School. What is the registration process?

When? Registration for current families begins the first week in February. New families may begin registering the 3rd week in February.

How? Registration packets are available for all grades at both buildings. In order to register, the following information will be needed:

 

Preschool:

Student Enrollment Card (yellow - please specify 3 or 4 year old and AM or PM classes)

Child Information Card (white)

Probation Policy form

Parish Acknowledgement Form

Health Form (green) completed by health care provider with documented immunization record

$135 Annual Fee (per family) *separate check

$125 Registration Fee per student (non-refundable)

If not currently attending St. Mary School, additional documents are required:

Birth Certificate (original* or copy)

Baptismal Record (if Catholic, original* or copy)

4 Year Old Preschool requires Vision and Hearing Screening

*original documents will be returned
