Saint Mary School does not participate in fund-raising activities, but our families find many creative (and often painless) ways to provide additional financial support for our school.

Scrip Program

Scrip is a term that means "substitute money" for Saint Mary School tuition or Saint Peter Religious Education tuition.  You use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas, and other essentials.  With every purchase, you earn money that is applied to your tuition balance.

This is a voluntary program, designed to provide some tuition assistance for Saint Mary School tuition. You may ask family, friends or co-workers to purchase Scrip from you as well. Gift certificates make great gifts; think of them as "a gift that continues to give." We encourage everyone to participate in this program; even those who do not have a student at Saint Mary School. It is a win-win program. Any revenue generated from an order not directly linked to a student is applied to a Tuition Scholarship Fund for Saint Mary School or Saint Peter Religious Education.

Complete program information, including order forms can be found on our Scrip page.

SMASH Golf Outing

St. Mary Annual Stag Holiday (SMASH) was founded in 1973 by a group of men who graduated from St. Mary High School as a means to give back to the school. The continued efforts of these gentlemen and new members have allowed this fine tradition to continue without fail for 36 years. Since 1973 SMASH has raised over $500,000 by means of an annual golf outing. Of the funds raised, approximately $80,000 in scholarships have been given to students from the 8th grade class who attend Catholic high school. These are typically $1000 scholarships awarded to three boys and three girls. The remainder is given back to the school for supplies, equipment, and technology. Despite of our economic environment, our dedicated committee and steadfast group of supporters allows SMASH to raise over $10,000 each year. Your support is needed more than ever to maintain this fine tradition as this year may prove to be a challenge for charitable events.

Pennies From Heaven

Pennies from Heaven is sponsored by the Parent Advisory Committee of Saint Mary School to fund special programs, activities, and gifts for the students. Each classroom (Preschool - 8th Grade) has a collection box which students and their families contribute to with spare change (and sometimes bills) throughout the school year. Each week, parent volunteers count the change to determine a running total for each classroom. Each grade level determines specific donation goals and rewards at the start of the school year. As individual classrooms receive their successive goals; the class celebrates with jean or pajama days, ice cream treats, movies, hat day, extra recess, etc. In addition to these mini-goals, the classes are also in competition with one another to raise the most money throughout the school year. The winning class wins an end-of-year pizza party.

The best part of the program is that all contributions directly benefit the students. Money raised through Pennies from Heaven help to fund many wonderful school assemblies.

Box Tops

Saint Mary Families collect Box Tops from household items participating in this national program. A contest within the school is held each month to see which class can collect the most Box Tops. The class with the highest redemption rate wins a free jean day or a special treat for Preschool and Kindergarten! Saint Mary School uses the proceeds from Box Tops to purchase classroom materials and furnishings.

Campbell's Labels for Education

Families also collect labels from Campbell's products and submit these to school throughout the school year. Saint Mary School redeems Campbell's product labels for classroom materials from a catalogue supplied by the Campbell's company.

Paper Recycling

Saint Mary School is working to become a Michigan Green School! We participate in the Paper Retreiver program. Two green and yellow paper recycling dumpsters are located in the Main Campus parking lot on Market Street. Simply save your home or office waste papers and deliver them to our recycle bin. The Paper Retriever organization picks up the recycling and rewards our school with cash! It's a win-win situation for our families, the school, and our Earth's environment.
